School Games Organiser

School Games Organiser Part Time/Full Time Salary: TBC Required to start September 2019

Southend West SSP is keen to recruit an enthusiastic, well-organised and suitably qualified person as Schools Games Organiser. This is a key, strategic role in developing sports competition in Southend.

The ideal candidate will have a background in sports development and/or coaching and have a passion for increasing physical activity levels for young people through the delivery of quality school sport and competitions. They will be an excellent communicator with the ability to inspire pupils. A flexible approach, and calm manner vital. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate, through application letter and interview the ability to:

  • Delivery of the SGOs five core tasks.

  • Organise and lead events for local primary schools.

  • Work with different groups of staff across the borough.

  • Work to deadlines and to keep calm under pressure.

  • Enthusiasm, commitment and motivation in the role.

  • Liaise with other SGOs in Southend and Essex County.

 

Additional Tasks:

In addition to the SGO five core tasks, the following tasks form part of the role to be delivered (allowing for flexible working practices)

  • To assist with administrative tasks relevant to the role

  • The post holder is expected to contribute to the ethos of the school and support the overall aims of The Eastwood Academy.

    Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and accountabilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified hence this is not an exhaustive list of duties. Employees will be expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Partnership Director to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this Job Description.

    This job description will be reviewed regularly and may be subject to amendment or modification at any time after consultation with the post-holder. It is not a comprehensive statement of procedures and tasks but sets out the main expectations of the school in relation to the post-holder’s professional responsibilities and duties.

 

Suitability to work with children will be checked with the Criminal Records Bureau. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a criminal record check from Criminal Records Bureau.

5 Core Tasks: (as set out by the Youth Sports Trust)

 

 

1. Driving participation in School Games by:

• Increasing the number of schools participating in the School Games programme

 

• Ensuring the development of a cultural component in levels 1-3 of the School Games

 

• Promote ways in which the School Games and competitive sport can contribute to school priorities and support the aspirations and achievements of young people in local schools

 

2. Developing competitive opportunities by:

• Working with other SGOs and the Local Organising Committee to ensure a structured and progressive competition calendar is published, that meets the needs of all young people across the SGO cluster of schools, and increases the number of competitive sport fixtures

 

• Ensuring the local competition calendar is aligned to club pathways and competition priority formats as defined by the National Governing Bodies

 

• Ensuring the provision of, inclusive and targeted opportunities, for young disabled people to access competition through the School Games programme

 

3. Clubs – increasing and sustaining participation by:

• Sustaining young peoples’ commitment to an active lifestyle by ensuring all School Games activity at level 1 and level 2 links to a wide range of club and community sport opportunities

 

• Sustaining, developing and growing the network of Active 30:30 in both primary and secondary schools

 

• Ensuring the progression of young people from Active Lives programme into the School Games at levels 1-2

 

4. Workforce – broadening the range of participation opportunities by:

• Developing the workforce required to activate the School Games at all levels locally. To deliver school games competitions support will be needed. The SGO will support the roles below to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities:

 

Volunteers (working with and through the CSP)

•Young leaders (including young coaches, young officials, and young team managers)

 

• Providing access to specialist coaches, training and equipment to assist schools (particularly primary/special schools) in delivering a range of lunchtime and after school programmes

 

5. Establishing key performance indications:

• SGOs will be expected to set local targets and report progress against these on a termly basis
