New School takes Football Title

Wednesday 2nd November saw the girls year 5 & 6 from the East and West battle it out at Alleyn Court School. The sun was shining and smiles were on all present, Fifteen teams had entered for this competition a fantastic effort in participation from all.

The tournament consisted of four pools where the top teams for each pool gained automatic selection into the quarter finals. The remaining 7 teams continued playing in two groups one for the shield and one for the plate. The schools present were West Leigh, Prince Avenue, Fairways, Thorpe Greenways, Temple Sutton, Heycroft, Hamstel, Earls Hall, Milton Hall, Leigh North Street, Alleyn Court A & B, Bournes Green, Bournemouth Park & Chalkwell Hall.  

The sun continued to shine along with the girls. All matches saw football skills free flowing and outstanding team play. There were goals galore in the quarter finals which was decided by a World Cup style draw as used in previous football competitions.

The Semi-finals saw Earls Hall and Bournes Green battle it out for the title with Alleyn Court and Fairways fight for third and fourth place.

Bournes Green sealed victory with a 3-2 win over Earls Hall. Each player showed sheer determination in the game and the spectators were able to view some Messi style goals. Fairways managed to sneak in a goal in the last minute to confirm the team walking away with bronze medals.

Best of luck to Bournes Green and Earls Hall who go on to represent Southend at the Essex Football competition next Wednesday 17th November.
