Girls Asda Kwik Cricket Tournament 2012

On Thursday 14th June the Asda Kwik Cricket Tournament for girls took place at Garons Park Cricket Bowl after being postponed from the 12th June due to the weather.

The day started at 12:30 when eight teams of girls ranging from year 5 to year 6, all battling for the Cricket Tournament title and a place in the Kwik Cricket County Final, which is to be held at Billericay Cricket Club on the 25th June.

Due to the date change some schools had to withdraw however this left eight girls team that took part: Thorpe Hall, Alleyn Court, Heycroft, Temple Sutton, Prince Avenue Bournes Green A & B, & Bournemouth Park.

The teams went through a round robin format were there were two groups each consisting of four teams. The top 4 teams plus the two highest runners up went through to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals were very close with the girls battling out until the last over. Alleyn Court was crowned the winners of the tournament going through to the Essex Competition on the 25th June at Billericay with Temple Sutton who finished second. Bournes Green just took the bronze away from Bournemouth Park with a successful innings.

Thanks to all the parents and teachers who came to support their players and Paul Johnson from Old Southendian & Southchurch Cricket Club who runs the Chance to Shine programme with Joe Sims from EASST who donated the trophy and medals.
