World Sport Day & SPSSA Torch

World Sports Day 25th June also saw the start of the Southend Primary School Sports Association Torch relay. Starting at the Eastwood Academy with pupils George Elliott, Holly Coughlan and Great Britain 800m/1500m runner James Shane. The torch will travel around 48 schools in the borough in three weeks.  The two sports partnerships plus the chair of the association with some funding from the Southend Borough Council and Olympus have designed a torch to visit each school during the relay. Between four and six runners have been selected from each school to represent and collect the torch from another school.  This relay project really tops off a successful year in sport for Southend, it complements our 2012 Passport scheme and really is an opportunity to enthuse the pupils of Southend before the breakup for the summer holidays and the Olympics. We hope that the projects will run help excite all years into really taking part in sport over the summer holidays and ready to get going in September when schools return.
