The Southend Schools Mini Games were held at the Eastwood Academy Athletics track on the 12th July 2012 with great success. The games consisted of a KS1 competition in the morning followed by a KS2 competition in the afternoon. Each school brought 15 students to take part in 10 different activities including ladder races, target throws, sprints, jumps, bean bag races. The idea behind the mini games is to celebrate and instil the values of the Olympic Games, which are:
Friendship
Excellence
Respect
Courage
Determination
Inspiration
Equality
To keep with tradition of the Games there was an opening and closing ceremony to celebrate these values. Some schools also performed a dance to celebrate any of the values. We were lucky enough to have the Eastwood Academy Samba band perform and lead the athletes for their opening cermony, led by Liam Ambrose, the Eastwood Academy's Head of Music.
Thank you to all staff and pupils for taking part in what was a highly enjoyable day and from the team at the Southend West School Sports Partnership we hope you have an enjoyable summer of sport!
