Disability Tennis workshop at Garons

Today saw several local schools attend a Disability Tennis workshop at Garons Leisure and Tennis centre Southend, hosted by the Lawn Tennis Association, Garons, both Southend School Sports Partnerships and supported by Young Leaders from Southend High School for Girls.

The morning's training enabled the Young Leaders to gain experience of what it is like to take part in tennis with a variety of disabilities ranging from partially sighted to wheelchair-bound. After this, the girls were shown ways in which tennis has been adapted to cater for these various disabilities and were then able to create their own skill stations which were to be put into use during the afternoon when the local pupils arrived.

The whole session went extremely well with both pupils and leaders really learning a lot and most importantly having fun! A big thank you must go to the girls from SHSG for their help and to the staff from the LTA and Garons for their expertise.
