Heycroft go for Gold

Well done to all schools that took part in the Year 3 & 4 Boys Football on Wednesday.

The competition was made up of 18 teams, the weather held out to give excellent playing conditions, making the games fast paced and full of action. All schools were placed in groups to play each other.

After a spot of lunch the top 8 teams played for the title. While the other 10 teams played for the rest of the rankings. The semi-finals saw a lot of drama with Heycroft vs Our Lady of Lourdes playing after 10 minutes played and no score, 5 extra minutes were played which still saw no score which resulted in penalties. The penalties saw 8 players from each team resulting in a win for Heycroft. In the after semi-final hosts Alleyn Court vs Bournes Green saw Bournes win 1-0 to progress into the final.

As for the final it was settled in a much more traditional way, after end to end action Heycroft finally took the lead and after ten minutes this saw Heycroft winning the final 1-0 and being crowned the 2014 years 3/4 football champions!! Bournes Green came a well-deserved second. In the bronze play off Our Lady of Lourdes scored a goal in the second half to seal the win against Alleyn Court.
