Fabulous Football Festival

The Boys Yr 5/6 Football Festival was finally held at Chase High School on Wednesday 24th February. Twenty one schools from the East and West partnership battled it out in numerous fourteen minute 6 a side football games on the astroturf pitches provided at very short notice by Chase and Playfootball.net.

Despite the testing weather conditions all schools produced a high standard of football with some great goals and saves from all the teams. After playing each team in their pool twice, winners were decided and winners of each pool played again.

The sun began to shine through when the final matches commenced. Leigh North Street played Thorpe Greenways in the winners borough playoff. Heycroft played Bournes Green in the runners up play off. Both theses matches were a close call. In the winners borough playoff Thorpe Greenways won 3-1 to take the title from Leigh North Street. In the runners up borough playoff Heycroft pipped Bournes Green 4-2 to take the victory.

A massive thank you to the East’s Apprentices from Shoeburyness School who lead by example and helped the referees for the day..

Best of luck to Thorpe Greenways and Leigh North Street who go forward to represent the East and West at the Essex Finals in Colchester on the 9th March 2010.
