Girls Yr 5/6 Football Festival Success

After much disappointment of the snow playing havoc with our competition calendar, the Yr 5/6 Girls Football tournament finally went ahead on Monday 15th March at the all weather pitches of Play Football, Southend.  The West SSP was represented by 4 schools, Heycroft, Chalkwell Hall, Leigh North Street and Milton Hall.  All of the teams were placed in one pool, all playing each other which after many goals from everyone, gave us the winning team. Congratulations to Chalkwell Hall who will now go on to represent the West SSP, alongside Bournes Green who will represent the East SSP at the County Finals in Harlow on 29th March.  As the SSP winners, both schools played in the Borough Final to finish the tournament.  After a nail biting final with both teams displaying very high standards of play and sportsmanship, Bournes Green took the Borough title with a very close 2-1 score.

Very well done to all of the girls for showing that this sport isn’t just for the boys.  A big thank you to Play Football, Southend for the use of their facilities, teachers and coaches for giving up their time to coach the girls and to the Southend East SSP team, Young Apprentices and our Competition Manager, Tracy Bennett, for organising and running the event.
