Year 5 & 6 Girls Football

This morning saw the girls year 5 & 6 from the East and West battle it out at Alleyn Court. Unlike the boys tournament the sun shone and the girls did not complain wearing T-shirts and shorts.

The tournament consisted of three pools which saw two of the pools play each other once with Pool B had three teams which had the opportunity to play each other twice.

The sun continued to shine along with the girls. All matches saw football skills free flowing and outstanding team play. There were goals galore in the quarter finals which was decided by a World Cup style draw as used in previous football competitions.

The Semi finals saw Earls Hall and Bournes Green battle it out for the East with Westleigh and Heycroft competing for the West title.

Earls Hall was victorious with a tight penalty shootout against Bournes Green. Heycroft excelled to the final which left Westleigh to play Bournes Green for 3rd and 4th place. Westleigh scored early on then confirmed the win by another goal in the second half. The final saw Earls Hall continue their excellent football skills and secure the title against Heycroft.

Best of luck to Earls Hall and Heycroft who go on to represent Southend at the Essex Football competition next Wednesday 10th November.

Congratulations to all players who participated in the tournament, coaches, teachers and parents who helped make the competition go so well and a fun day for all involved.

Special thanks must go to Alleyn Court for the use of their pitches and facilities, Danny Heath, Connor Chilvers and Mike Finneran from Southend United for refereeing, Tracy Bennett the competition manager as well as SWSSP and SESSP staff for the refereeing and organisation of the competition
