Hot Cross Run 2011

On Tuesday 15th March the ‘Hot Cross Run’ cross-country event was held at Bridgewater Drive (St Bernard’s and St Thomas More playing fields). The event was originally devised to increase inter school competition between Primary schools within the Southend West School Sports Partnership. Now it is has become a firm fixture in the Catholic schools’ sporting calendar!.

The Olympic Values were a key feature in this event; respect, excellence, friendship, determination, courage, inspiration and equality.

The students from both St Bernard’s and St Thomas More were given opportunities to become sports officials using positive communication and motivational skills

Unfortunately we were not blessed with the same weather as last year but this did not stop children enjoying the race and treating themselves to ice cream from Rossi.

Mrs. Barron from St Bernard’s High School for girls and Mr. Travis Head of St Thomas More awarded individual and team prizes. Children were recognised and awarded with special commendation awards.

The Ruth Lambert Memorial Trophy was presented by Mikey and William Lambert to Bryce O’Dea a pupil from Holy Family. Bryce is a great runner and tries hard to always improve whatever he is doing. He never boasts about his running and always encourages and cheers others until then end. He also plays football both in and outside of school.

St Bernard’s, St Thomas More and the SWSSP were delighted to be able to provide an opportunity for so many children to unite in the Catholic ethos of friendship and understanding.
