On Wednesday 30th March schools from across Southend displayed their skills at the Year 3 & 4 Mixed football tournament held at Play, Chase High School. The bitter cold and inevitable rain did not stop these young players using their speed and skill to impress the partnerships.
The two partnerships were split into four pools, (2 for each partnership) where the West and East teams played each other.
The participating schools from the west were Edwards Hall, Heycroft, Milton Hall, Westbourgh, Our Lady of Lourdes, Blenheim and St Mary’s. The East teams were Porters Grange, Temple Sutton, Prince Avenue, Earls Hall, Bournes Green, Hinguar and Thorpe Greenways. Prince Avenue and Bournes Green won their pools for the East to play for medals while in the west St Mary’s and ever present at the medal stage Heycroft were top of their pools.
The remaining schools played in the Cup and lower ranked schools played for the shield. The final games were very tense with Heycroft beating Prince Avenue 6-3 to place 3rd and 4th consecutively and Bournes Green sealing victory in the last minute to end the game 3-2 to win the tournament.
