Girls Asda Kwik Cricket Tournament

On Tuesday 7th June the Asda Kwik Cricket Tournament for girls took place at Garons Park Cricket Bowl.

The day started at 12:30 when nine teams of girls ranging from year 5 to year 6, all battling for the Cricket Tournament title and a place in the Kwik Cricket County Final, which is to be held at Chelmsford Cricket Club on the 30th June.

This year we all felt that the standard had once again increased from the previous year. The nine girls team which took part were Thorpe Greenways, Chalkwell, Earls Hall, Alleyn Court, Heycroft, Bournes Green A & B, Westborough & Bournemouth Park.

The teams went through a round robin format were there were three groups each consisting of three teams. The top 8 teams went through to the quarter finals and then winners from these matches played for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th.

It was a very exciting for all spectators that stayed to watch the match, with all teams very competitive, but still keeping a friendly approach to their big game. Earls Hall were eventually  crowned winners of the 2011 Cricket Tournament against a close final with Bournes Green missing up by 5 runs. Chalkwell Hall also won their game holding off Bournemouth Park who finished 4th.

A big thank you to Asda’s who sponsor this event and all at Essex Cricket. Thanks to all the parents and teachers who came to support their players and Paul Johnson from Old Southendian & Southchurch Cricket Club who runs the Chance to Shine programme. A Girl’s Summer Cricket programme will be starting at Southend High School for Boys Sports Hall on a Friday night 6pm-7:15pm for more information please contact Paul on 01702 528348.
