Boys Asda Kwik Cricket Tournament

On Wednesday 8th June the Asda Kwik Cricket Tournament for boys took place at Garons Park Cricket Bowl.

The day started at 12:30 when fifteen teams of boys ranging from year 5 to year 6, all battling for the Cricket Tournament title and a place in the Kwik Cricket County Final, which is to be held at Billericay Cricket Club on the 28th June.

This year we all felt that the as well as the girls the boys standard had once again increased from the previous year. The fifteen boys teams which took part were Thorpe Greenways, Temple Sutton, Leigh North Street, Alleyn Court, Earls Hall, Milton Hall, Bournes Green A & B, Blenheim, Darlinghurst, Prince Avenue, Westborough, Bournemouth Park, Heycroft & Chalkwell.

The teams went through a round robin format were there were three groups each consisting of three teams. The top 8 teams went through to the quarter finals and then winners from these matches played for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th.

Despite the ever changing weather the boys battled through the rain and wind to display some excellent cricket skills. Chalkwell Hall took victory against last year’s winners Alleyn Court and Leigh North Street sealed third place with a 233-215 win over Blenheim. Chalkwell and Leigh North Street will respresent Southend at the finals at the end of June. Both the SESSP & SWSSP wish you the best of luck and ask you to keep shining!

A big thank you to Asda’s who sponsor this event and all at Essex Cricket. Thanks to all the parents and teachers who came to support their players and Paul Johnson from Old Southendian & Southchurch Cricket Club who runs the Chance to Shine programme.  If your child is interested in playing more cricket please contact Paul on 01702 528348.
