Blue skies, eager Sports Leaders and lots of very excited boys and girls make a good recipe for a 6 a-side Football tournament. Approximately 56 children from Heycroft, Westborough, Milton Hall, Eastwood, Sacred Heart and Blenheim came together on Wednesday 4th November at Chase High School to compete in the Year 3/4 mixed football tournament. This event was organised specifically for the children across the partnership who attend their school’s football clubs but who do not get selected for the A team tournaments or leagues. All of the teams played several matches throughout the afternoon to determine a Partnership winner. Heycroft and Westborough were the eventual finalists with Heycroft taking the title with a 6-2 win in a very well contested and exciting final.
The afternoon concluded with each of the schools from both Partnerships being ranked and playing each other in the Borough play-offs. The Borough final was between Heycroft and Earls Hall with Heycroft taking the title with a 3-1 win.
It was very encouraging to see such a high standard of play at Team B & C level showing that good football coaching/teaching is taking place for all of the children in all of our schools.
Special mention should be made to the Southend West SSP Barabarians! A group of children from across the partnership formed a team so that in the knockout stages there were the correct amount of teams. An example of the great sportsmanship and teamwork that is developing across the area!
